Piratería y estrategia defensiva en Yucatán durante el siglo XVIII

This article talks about the defensive system installed in Spanish America, emphasizing the region of Mérida (Mexico), in order to protect the lands that were on the possession of the Spanish Crown, especially against attacks by pirates and smugglers; the analysis continues with a historical contextualization on piracy, the Spanish colonization and the system, discussing its peculiarities and reasons for its ineffectiveness.
