A Cartografia das fortificações da Amazônia nos séculos XVII e XVIII

This article is part of a post doctorate project about fortifications in the Amazon territory from 1616 to 1670. It is the result of the European accommodation according to the Westphalen Or-der in 1648 and the Treaty of Madrid in 1750. It stipulates the borders for colony properties in the Amazonian scope and is characterized by its multiplicity. In this context, cartography, archi-tecture, history and foreign affairs share a link. This work also examines the historical context, the border cartography, the geopolitics and the sociology of the conquest. The aim is to stu-dy Brazilian amazon fortifications and the particular characteristics of the military architecture produced in the 1600’s and 1700’s.
