As Capitanias de Pernambuco e a construção dos territórios e das jurisdições na América portuguesa (século XVIII)

"As Capitanias de Pernambuco e a construção dos territórios e das jurisdições na América portuguesa (século XVIII)" aims to investigate the construction of colonial power and governance spaces in the former captaincies of the North of the State of Brazil, fundamentally in the eighteenth century, a period marked by interimperial tensions and by projects of territorial reform in the kingdom and in the overseas conquests. Thus, through an approach that brings together a history of urbanization in the portuguese world, an indigenous history and political history, the central interest is the slow process of construction of a territorial order assumed mostly in the mid-seventies, which confirmed a capitality of the Recife and the prominence of its governors-generals in dealing with local elites and in the government of conquest, but it was also responsible for producing a new relational scenario with indigenous populations, especially those that composed the base contingent of the so-called “pombaline villages”, whose main purpose invariably passed by the confrontation of the sertões and the violent reorganization of the native territorialities.
