A musealização de uma fortificação: um estudo sobre o Forte de Copacabana e sua ressonância

Based on notes and reflections on the key concepts of patrimony, patrimonialization, museum and musealization, this work aims to analyze how the process of musealization in the Forte de Copacabana was developed, starting from the implantation of the Historical Museum of the Army, at the last fortification erected in the city of Rio de Janeiro. From the concepts of museality and resonance we seek to understand the role of the local community in the process of preserving the property, and how it reverberated in the understanding of the historical site.

Through documentary analysis, bibliographical review and using a qualitative methodology, we proceeded to observe and interview, with professionals who worked and still work in the Historical Museum of the Army and Forte de Copacabana, and with leaders of social movements and cultural projects, which are linked to the museum's trajectory. When working with questions about museum and heritage, we selected authors who are at the center of the main issues related to the theme, thus composing our theoretical framework, such as José Reginaldo Gonçalves, Lia Calabre, Maria Cecília London Fonseca, Maria Margarete London, Pedro Paulo Funari, Regina Abreu, Tereza Scheiner among others.

The study presents a historical panorama of the creation of the Forte de Copacabana, and the subsequent deactivation to house a military museum, also discussing the trajectory of the cultural heritage of the Brazilian Army. This recovers parts of the history of occupancy of the fortification, starting from the project of implantation of the museum, characterizing actors that were decisive in the process of its structure. It discusses the Army's trajectory in the field of culture, based on the creation of directories aimed at this purpose. As final considerations, this study points out the moments in which the local community was decisive in the process of preservation of the Forte de Copacabana, how it appropriated the asset of its property and the existence of a communication gap and the need to update the exhibition area in order to contribute to the resonance of the historical site by its pubic.
